Design and Technology

Design and technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject at Claydon Primary SchoolBy using creativity and imagination, our pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts. Through a cross curricular approach our children acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art. Pupils learn how to take risks, to help them become resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens in later life. Through the evaluation of their design and technology, they develop a critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world.

Cooking and Nutrition

As part of their work with food, pupils are taught how to cook simple dishes using a variety of skills with the aim of instilling a love of food. Across the two Key Stages, pupils use the principles of a healthy and varied diet to cook and prepare dishes, as well as understand and appreciate seasonality:-including where and how a variety of ingredients are grown, reared, caught and processed. Units of learning are planned as part of the thematic approach to enhance cross-curricular links.
