Physical Education

Physical Education plays a vital part of everyday school life. All pupils in KS1 and KS2 have two hours of P.E. timetabled each week to cover the six main areas of the National Curriculum which are dance, gymnastics, games, swimming, athletics, and outdoor and adventurous activities.

Fun, enjoyment, confidence, competence and self-esteem are the forefront of our PE delivery.  Pupils in Nursery, Reception and KS1 develop the fundamental skills such as aiming and throwing, balance, co-ordination, control, and movement. In KS2 pupils are able to use these fundamental skills to develop their knowledge and understanding of invasion games such as football, basketball, netball, tag rugby and hockey.  These skills are also transferrable to striking and fielding games such as cricket and rounders, together with net games such as tennis and volleyball.

Swimming is offered to all pupils in each year whilst they are in KS2, with lessons being provided at Mid-Suffolk Leisure Centre by qualified swimming instructors. A healthy lifestyle is also promoted.  Alongside the PE Curriculum the pupils have the opportunity to participate in lunchtime and after school sports clubs including; Learn Play Grow, running club, multisport, football, netball, basketball, rounders, dance and fitness, Quadkids (athletics) and cricket.  A selection of these are offered at different times throughout the school year.

Pupils are given the opportunity to participate in the local school primary pyramid festivals and competitions.  As a school we have enjoyed success competing at a local and county level.  School fixtures are arranged in some sports which enable pupils to be proud to represent their school. We also organise in-school team competitions where the pupils from each team compete against one another. As a school we feel these sport links are essential for pupils to feel part of a community.
