SCHOOL GAMES U11 GIRLS

FUTSAL TOURNAMENT

Thursday 31st January 2019

We took 6 players to the tournament and participated in 3 games – playing ten minutes one way.  The format was 5v5 with a goalkeeper.

Our first game was against Whitton and it was a very even match, with both teams attacking and defending well.  The only goal came three minutes before the end when we all pushed forward to attack allowing a Whitton player to drop behind our defence line and with a good forward pass she received the ball to take on Ruby and score.

Our second game was against East Bergholt and we looked so much more confident.  Their goalkeeper was quick off her line, to prevent Mia’s shot.  This was followed by another shot from Mia which just went wide.  East Bergholt retaliated by hitting the side netting and seeing another shot go wide.   The game finished goal less.

Our last game was against Ipswich High.  We saw a great save from Ruby in the sixth minute and Maia then counter attacked, but just lost control of the ball on her last touch.  Ipswich High scored from a wide shot, catching us off guard.  Maia then attacked with a one on one with the keeper, but the keeper managed to block the shot.  We lost our confidence a little, which allowed them to score again just before the final whistle.

We showed great team spirit and learnt a lot with Shannon and Laura defending well throughout and Freya, Mia and Maia providing a strong midfield.  Mia and Freya were also praised by Suffolk FA for their strong tackles.

Maia won the fair play award.

All the children displayed great teamwork, attitude and sportsmanship.  Well done everyone and thank you to the parents for transporting and supporting the team!

SCHOOL GAMES U9 MIXED

FUTSAL FESTIVAL

Thursday 17th January 2019

We took 5 players to the festival and participated in 5 games – playing ten minutes one way.

Our first 3 games were one after another, but we rose to the challenge.

The first game was against Hadleigh and we started strongly with a display of competent footwork from Bobby resulting in a goal.  This was closely followed by a second goal from Bobby after an accurate kick on from Harrison.  Francesca hit the post shortly afterwards with Harrison shooting just wide.  Despite some excellent defending from Bobby and Liam they pulled a goal back in the eighth minute.  However, we kept our composure with Liam scoring a long range shot in the ninth minute quickly followed by a goal from Francesca.

The second game was against Stratford St Mary and once again we started brightly with Liam scoring from a corner in the second minute.  Harrison scored our second as it ricocheted in off the inside of the post, quickly followed by an excellent chip - one minute later he completed his hat trick! Connor saw two shots go wide as well as one off the post, with Liam also hitting the post.  Stratford pulled a goal back in the eighth minute, but this was quickly cancelled out by a goal from Liam, following on from some strong defending.

The third game was against Whitton.  Harrison opened the scoring when his kick on was deflected back to him providing an opportunity for him to shoot.  Whitton quickly cancelled this out.  Harrision then hit the side netting before once again taking a kick on which was deflected into the goal.  Once again Whitton cancelled this out as we saw Connor’s shot go wide and Harrison hit the post.  We took the lead once again with a goal from Connor, only to see Whitton strike the ball just as the whistle went, but the goal was allowed to stand.

The fourth game was against Causton and keeping our form we opened the scoring with Connor counterattacking after a strong few minutes defending.  Bobby went on to score from an excellent cross in from Connor.  Bobby saw his header rise just over the crossbar and Causton hit back with their first goal.  Liam went on to score our third, but once again Causton hit back.  Liam defended well and Bobby made a good block.  Francesca saw her shot go just wide before Bobby scored our fourth.  Causton went on to score a third, but we managed to hold on for the win.

Our last game was against Halifax, which proved very exciting.  Harrison opened the scoring only to see Halifax equalise.  Bobby scored our second, but Halifax hit back immediately again.  Harrison scored our third with a great strike, but again Halifax equalised.  Francesca made a great block and Connor was defending well, in an end to end game.

Francesca won the fair play award.

All the children displayed great teamwork, attitude and sportsmanship.  Well done everyone and thank you to the parents for transporting and supporting the team!
